The author of the article analyzes the phenomenon of so-called «functional» music. A number of theoretical and practical problems in this sphere is determined namely pros and cons of the existence of «functional» music, the lack of accurate distinctness in terminology, the sphere of application and purpose, the necessity of the creation of the institution of professional background design, music therapy.
