Between L. Mizler and J. Mattheson (J. S. Bach’s creative process and «musical mathematics»)
This article is dedicated to comprehension of relations between music and mathematics in the Baroque Era, especially in connection with Bach’s creative process and the definition of music, made by G. W. Leibnitz. The main attention is given to the opinions of L. Mizler and J. Mattheson. The point of view of J. S. Bach is considered as the «golden middle» among this opposite conceptions. It’s possible to affirm that mathematics in Bach’s creative activity was the instrumental means, but not the determinative one.
