Research sphere and interests

Main V.N. Kholopova’s research interests are: theory of music of the twentieth century, conducting art by Stravinsky, Webern, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Schnittke, Gubaidulina, Denisov, Shchedrin, Slonimsky, Tishchenko, Ledeneva, Shutya, Suslina, Tarnopolsky.

Also V. N. Kholopova has developed three new research areas in Russian musicology:
1. Theory and history of musical rhythm.
2. The theory of musical content.
3. Theory of musical emotions.

Publications

V. N. Kholopova is the author of numerous articles, monographs, books on topical issues of contemporary music-theoretical science and history of music. She has published 36 books (including books published in collaboration with other researchers) and more than 400 scientific articles (including more than 50 articles written in foreign languages). Also she has accomplished more than 20 translations of foreign books and their fragments on the problems of musicology.

Activities and awards

27 PhDs and 5 doctoral theses were prepared and successfully defended under the academic supervision by V. N. Kholopova. She often participates in conferences and symposia.

V. Kholopova was awarded with numerous honorary degrees and awards for significant contribution in development of science and culture, such as: Award of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Education of the USSR (for the book "Russian Musical Rhythm") (1980); Béla Bartók Award, Hungary (for the book "Issues of Rhythm in the Works by Composers of the XX Century", 1981); B.V. Asafiev Award (for the book "Alfred Schnittke", in cooperation with E.I. Cigaretee) (1991); the title of Honored Artist of Russia (1995); Award "Book of the Year" — for the book "The Composer Alfred Schnittke", awarded "Book Review" (2003); Medal "Honor and Advantage" (the International Charity Fund "Patrons of the Century") (2006); Order of Friendship (2006); the Title of "Person of the Year" by the newspaper "Musical Review" (2008); Diploma "Golden Chair of Russia" (2010); the title of Honored Worker of Science and Education (2010); Diploma "Founder of Scientific School" (PARADISE, 2011); the title of Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (RAE, 2011); The Russian Federation Government Prize in the Field of Culture (2011), Honorary diploma and gold medal of the European Scientific-Industrial Chamber (2012).
