Sonata for Clarinet and Piano in the French Chamber and Instrumental Music of the XXth Century: the Features of Succession
Some representative chamber instrumental works – sonatas for clarinet and piano by French composers of the XXth century – are considered in the article. The author selects four cycles dated from 1920–1960s and belonged to Camille Saint-Saёns, Arthur Honegger, Francis Poulenc, Pierre Sancan. Composers’ art conceptions, imagery, structure specificity of named works, dramaturgic and composition processes in each of the parts, technical realization and expressive interpretation of possibilities of instrumental duet are characterized by researcher. The most important parallels between elucidate sonatas and essential features of the French national tradition of music are noted.
