Vasily Kalinnikov’s musical heritage in a context of the basic tendencies of development of Russian culture in the end of the XIXth century

V. S. Kalinnikov’s musical heritage covers the works of all basic genres – symphonic, theatrical, chamber (instrumental and vocal) music. But in orchestral music it was most full showed both an originality of its creative method and characteristic tendencies of Russian art culture in the end of the XIXth century. Two features distinguishing composer’s handwriting by Kalinnikov: a prepotent role of the lyric and traditionalism – are allocated in the article. To some extent these lines were peculiar not only Russian music by composers-«eighty-foremen» – S. Taneev, A. Lyadov, A. Glazunov, S. Lyapunov, A. Arensky, M. Ippolitov-Ivanov, but also Russian art culture of this time as a whole. Vivid examples – prose of I. Turgenev, N. Leskov, A. Chekhov, I. Bunin, V. Garshin, V. Korolenko. In the present article the original realization of the given tendencies in V. Kalinnikov’s creative work is characterized. Defining specificity of musical «locus» of the composer, it is necessary to consider natural and cultural features of the environment of a Central Russian province which has generated him and defined national character of Kalinnikov’s compositions. Original musical style of the composer synthesized epic and lyrical traditions of Russian musical classics, especially traditions of А. Borodin and P. Tchaikovsky that has caused position of Kalinnikov as «ender» of the whole epoch in the musical XIXth century.
