Vaudeville in Russian contemporary culture

This article studies the problem of adaptation of the farce in contemporary culture. We study the form of existence of vaudeville on the stage, in the media and virtual space. The objectives of the study included the identification of the repertoire and trends in the area of director’s interpretation, as well as the analysis of the vaudeville transformations when it is translated into the language of another art. The study found that timeless classic vaudeville by domestic and foreign authors remain in theaters’ repertoire. Adaptation of vaudeville, with the purpose of reduction in compliance with the requirements of modern drama and the changing perception of the viewer is embodied in the creation of new music and poetic texts: the enlargement of forms, the enrichment of the storyline, the complexity of interaction of characters and the intertwining of dramaturgic lines. Along with genre transformation, vaudeville interacts with other types of genres, embodied in ballet, music, film and television film, media forms and genres.
