The formation of the Volgograd branch of the Union of Russia Composers: stages, contexts, modern realities
The article examines the historical process of formation as applied to the Volgograd regional branch of the Union of Russia Composers. The overview and subsequent reconstruction of the process presented by the authors were carried out in context of historical and cultural realities of the Soviet era, taking into account the significance of ideological and institutional factors of positioning the composer association as a sociocultural phenomenon. Objective reasons were identified that caused the problematic nature of this association functioning in Volgograd: lack of a professional base, late formation, long breaks in work. For the first time, the prehistory and little-studied initial stages of the formation of this commonwealth were covered: from the pre-revolutionary years to 1971 – the official date of appearance of the regional organization of the Union of RSFSR Composers. Characterizing the context accompanying creative activity in this area, the authors correlate regional specifics with similar tendencies that accompanied the emergence of composer unions at the national level. I. Peregudov and K. Listov appear as the first representatives of the local composer workshop. The creative activity of the Stalingrad community of composers that arose in the pre-war years correlates with the names of the first professional authors – A. Diyachkov, A. Kolomiytsev and D. Govorukhin. The role of a similar amateur association, which arose in the 1950s at the initiative of M. Zubach, is being evaluated. The 1960s, marked by cooperation with the Lower Volga Association of the Union of RSFSR Composers, are considered as a historically important stage. The period of stable and productive creative activity of the Volgograd Composers’ Organization was the 1970s and 1980s. V. Semenov and M. Katsnelson, who went down in the history of regional musical culture as the founders of this organization, are indicated as its representatives; a brief description of their extensive heritage is presented. Among the most significant composers of the subsequent time are A. Klimov and P. Morozov. The authors of the article are attracted by little-known regional materials from the magazine “Soviet Music”.
