The article is focuses on two little-known works for wind instruments composed by Mozart in his Salzburg creative period with the uncommon cast: KV 187 and 188 for 2 flutes, 5 trumpets and 4 timpani. Besides the history and dating of these works, the problem of their genre identification is concerned in the article for the first time. The instrumental texture’s features and the use of the natural trumpets are examined in line with the Baroque tradition. These and other observations help understand the young composer`s work method.
