The sound mentality of modern Yakut cinema
The phenomenon of Yakut cinema, which has been discussed in Russia and abroad since the end of the first decade of the 21st century, so far has only been comprehended as an event in cinematography, which is not surprising, given the complexity of the ongoing geopolitical and socio-cultural processes, and, moreover, the well-known closeness of the Yakut cinema art, deliberately not striving for a wide (outside the republic) film distribution, focused on regional audience due to fear of loss of national identity. Therefore, this article can be considered as the first attempt to analyze the achievements of Yakut cinema through the prism of its sound mentality, which reflects the national identity, worldview, lifestyle and cultural traditions of the Northern people. The purpose of the article is to study the model of “phonosphere” construction, proposed by the Yakut cinema and having a number of individual characteristics. A distinctive feature of most of the Yakut films is that the soundtracks practically cannot be differentiate into separate components (speech, noise, music, silence), coupled with separate professional processes of the sound engineer and composer, who at different stages can replace each other, which falls out of the traditional narratives of Russian and Western cinema. As a result of the analysis, the author came to the conclusion that it is necessary to develop new mechanisms, techniques and approaches to the study of the latest trends in the development of modern cinema. Equally important is the introduction of new terminology, particularly the concept of "soundscape", which was not previously used in both film studies and musicology in relation to the film music – a method that largely determines the powerful visual energy of the frame. The soundscapes allow us to capture the unique sound mentality of modern Yakut cinema, contribute to reaching a qualitatively new level of comprehension of the sound-visual nature of the film, pushing existing ideas about the artistic possibilities of sound in the symbiosis of all its components.
