“Time of composers” as a research and creative paradigm (on the 80th anniversary of musicologist Anatoly Tsuker)

This article is conceived as a jubilee tribute on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the distinguished Russian musicologist Anatoly Moiseevich Tsuker – Doctor of Art Studies, Honored Art Worker of Russia, Professor at the Rostov State Rachmaninoff Conservatory, Chairman of the Rostov Regional Public Organization "Union of Composers of Russia", and Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. The focus of the study aligns with the central theme of the jubilarian’s research, educational, and organizational activities – аnamely, the scholarly interpretation and active promotion of both the contemporary composer as a figure and his works within concert and festival practices. The author first emphasizes A. Tsuker’s personal qualities, which have enabled him, through decades of extensive and multifaceted work spanning diverse fields of musicology, to earn not only immense professional authority but also widespread recognition. The article then examines his contribution to the academic study of contemporary composers, expressed in the creation of numerous monographs and articles offering indepth artistic and personal "portraits" of various authors. His significant role as an educator in shaping young student composers at the Rostov Conservatory is also highlighted. Special attention is given to A. Tsuker’s proactive role as Chairman of the Rostov branch of the "Union of Composers of Russia", which in recent years has evolved into a true cultural ecosystem encompassing all possible stages of realizing the complex, intellectually and emotionally demanding work of composers: research – teaching – performance – recording – public outreach – integration into concert practice.
