Research and methodological heritage of M. Khudoverdova in context of the Rostov vocal school forming

This article is dedicated to one of the significant anniversaries celebrated by the Rostov Conservatory in the coming year: the 100th anniversary of the birth of Honored Artist of Russia M. Khudoverdova (1926–2016), one of the leading vocal educators in the Don region. From 1984 to 2010, she headed the Department of Solo Singing and Opera Training at the Rostov Musical Pedagogical Institute – Rostov Conservatory. Contemporary scholars consider M. Khudoverdova a key figure in the development of the Rostov vocal school. In doing so, experts typically cite the numerous talented graduates who have won prestigious international competitions and performed successfully on the stages of major Russian and international musical theaters. Scholars also emphasize her significant contribution to the productive work of the department, the effective organization of the educational process, and other related achievements. At the same time, Khudoverdova’s long-standing scholarly and methodological activity is mentioned comparatively rarely, despite the fact that this sphere is one of the most important for the establishment and productive development of modern vocal schools. Drawing on manuscript materials preserved in the library of the Rostov Conservatory and on evaluative remarks by well-known Don-region musicologists, the author seeks to identify the significant heuristic and didactic potential inherent in Khudoverdova’s methodological works and manifested in her daily pedagogical practice. To support this analysis, the study turns to a methodological essay dedicated to the prominent Russian singer and professor of the Moscow Conservatory E. K. Katulskaya – a text that has not yet been fully published.
