The theme of the Last Judgment in modern music for bayan and works with its participation
The article is devoted to the study of one of the key subjects of the Bible, which became the basis of many musical works of various eras – the prophecy on the Last Judgment. Using the example of works of various genres (Symphony No. 3 by S. Berinskiy with solo Bayan, Sonata No. 3 by Vl. Zolotarev, Concert triptych «The Last Judgment» by V. Vlasov), the ambiguity of the plot, its semantic openness and general spiritual orientation, as well as a diverse range of compositional, thematic and textural solutions applied by the composers in the process of implementing the stated concepts. An analysis of one of the paintings (I. Bosch’s Triptych) indicates the presence of a deeply subjective interpretation by the artist of the concept of the Last Judgment, as well as innovative approaches in the field of plot layout. The analysis of the musical dramaturgy of the works made it possible to identify multiple relationships with pictorial prototypes and their variable interpretation: from the concretely associative (S. Berinskiy) to the generalized abstract (V. Vlasov). At the musical and stylistic level, neo-romantic intentions and a focus on a subjective and personal interpretation of the biblical plot come to the fore in all compositions. The musical themes of the compositions presuppose reliance on Baroque lexemes (Sonata № 3 by Vl. Zolotarev), active use of sonorics, sound-imaginative techniques, intonation and timbre personification (S. Berinsky, V. Vlasov). The analysis of the bayan texture clearly demonstrates the reliance on modern antiphonal, noise techniques, ostinato tendency, and playing in extreme registers. The analysis of the orchestration in S. Berinskiy’s Symphony made it possible to identify the special role of the solo bayan, which acts as a symbol of the divine principle, an associate of the author's word. At the level of phonics, active dissonance and cluster technique come to the fore.
